La Maison des Langues Vivantes "To master your own native language, you need to know at least one other language." Goethe The Maison des Langues Vivantes is a bookshop specialized in languages. We are open to anybody interested in languages and we offer learning products in over 180 living languages. As you know, time flies and after 46 years we continue to expand our selection so as to reflect the latest in language learning technologies : after books and dictionaries, audio-cd and DVD, we can now offer electronic translators, CD-ROMs, DVD-ROMs ... At the Maison you can find books in 3 different categories : - the "teach yourself" : people who learn on their own, without help - the educational : the material used in schools to teach languages - the professional : for translators and students of translation For those of you who must teach yourself a modern language, we offer methods that include audio, video and PC components. The "teach yourself" methods are always structured in your mother language while at the same time offering the translation of the texts and, most importantly, the keys to all the exercises. Regarding educational material, we carry the most well-known books from famous publishers around the world. The books in vogue these days are communicative and often written only in the target language with no reference to the student's native language. These methods offer exercise books adapted to the level of the learner, teacher's books to help the teacher, and audio or video tapes. Audio material is a very interesting way for the student to acquaint him or herself with the real pronunciation and the variety of accents in any given language. In addition, at the Maison you can find grammars (with or without exercises and keys, with or without your native language), dictionaries (monolingual and bilingual), lists of vocabulary by subjects, easy readers (texts adapted to the student's level of vocabulary), bilingual books (original text on the left side, translation on the right) or annotated books (text on the left side, monolingual information on the right) ... For professionals, we carry a wide selection of technical dictionaries (bilingual and multilingual), workbooks to exercise translation techniques, and more. Our choice of products is based on 4 languages that are usually always available : the national languages of Belgium (French, Dutch, German) and English.
